Jocelyn Bartram (AU)
Biography
Jocelyn Bartram is a name synonymous with resilience and excellence in the world of hockey. Hailing from Albury in southern NSW, she took her first steps into hockey at the tender age of six, following her family's athletic footsteps. A multi-sport prodigy, she dabbled in soccer, basketball, water polo, and tennis during her early years.
An unexpected twist came at age 11, when growing pains in her knees led her to take up goalkeeping, a decision that would forever shape her sporting career. Jocelyn's talent was undeniable and quickly recognized; in 2016, she earned a Hockey Australia scholarship and made her international debut, securing a win against China.
Over the years, Jocelyn's career has been marked by several high points. She was part of the Hockeyroos squad that clinched silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and she delivered a standout performance at the 2022 FIH Women’s World Cup, where her goalkeeping heroics earned her the player of the match. Despite a setback from a patella tendon injury, she continued to shine, helping the NSW Pride win the Hockey One League and securing a bronze medal at the same World Cup.
In 2023, Jocelyn and the Hockeyroos further proved their mettle by finishing third in the Women’s International Pro League and winning the Oceania Cup series, which punched their ticket to the Paris Olympics. Her consistent excellence has also earned her nominations for the FIH Goalkeeper of the Year award in both 2022 and 2023.
Balancing her sports career with academics, Jocelyn initially studied exercise and sports science before pursuing a medical degree at the University of Notre Dame. Her inspiration comes from Rachel Imison, a gold-medal-winning Hockeyroos goalkeeper who is also a distinguished doctor—a path Jocelyn aspires to follow.
